Doctors Perform First Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery in Salt Lake.




An orthopedic surgeon performed the first knee replacement with the new robotic system last week. The patient who received the cutting edge surgery is Jim Thornhill.




More than 21 million people in the U.S. suffer from knee osteoarthritis. -American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeeons.




With the robots and their operating environment, the doctors can create a 3-D (three-dimensional) plan ahead of time, and then goes into the operating and executes that plan.




Scientists are extending this research to further level. They want to do the hip replacement as well. It is a common phenomena that people will beleive on what is done by computers or robots. They beleive in their precision.
