9ff GT9 409km/h in Papenburg

Engineers at 9ff have finally accomplished their goal of beating the Bugatti Veyron's 407km/h (252mph) top speed, with their highly modified GT9 supercar posting a new top speed of 409km/h (254mph) during official testing in Papenburg April 10. The world record for the fastest production car, however, is still held by America's SSC Ultimate Aero TT, which reached a top speed of 411km/h (255mph) last September.

The GT9 may be a production model but available examples are hard to come by as the car will be built in an extremely exclusive run of just 20 examples and each priced at €592,620 ($853,634). Although the GT9 is loosely based on a Porsche 911, its mechanical package has been totally revised. Ditching the 911's rear-engine layout, 9ff engineers created a custom mid-mounted engine design utilizing the tuner's twin-turbo 4.2L flat-six engine. Peak output stands at 987hp and 964Nm of torque.

I find it funny to think that a multi-million dollar car manufacturer spent a lot of money building the fastest car they could, only to have been beaten by SSC, which is frankly, a couple of guys working in a shed.

Veyron here, Veyron there, man that car has 16 cylinders and 4 turbos, its not wonder that it drives over 400 Km/h. That 9ff is a 6 cylinder boxermotor with 2 turbos, that 9ff is in my eyes the winner in the fight Bugatti vs 9ff, even if the veyron weights more.
