Just like with my videos "A Trustworthy Horse," and "Walking Under A Horse," I do not recommend repeating what I do in this video with a horse with whom one is not very familiar and with whom one has not had a lot of intimate contact. Being able to do this serves several functions. For one, it both demonstrates intimacy and creates deeper intimacy. On a practical level, it allows you to inspect the horse's legs and belly and private regions in the case of cuts, infections, irritations, etc. Sassy behaves especially well here, as the flies on this day were horrendous, and she had been kicking and snorting at them vigorously right before I shot this video. I only proceeded because I knew she wouldn't kick while I was there under her, and I knew that because of the hundreds and hundreds of hours of contact I have had with her. I do treat her for her patience. A recent French study for the International Equine Council extols the use of treats in the training of horses.
