Me and our Rat Terrier kayaking a 20 mile trip in my pungo 120 kayak on the upper part of current river in Missouri at Akers Ferry! My dog rode the entire way on top of the kayak and only fell off twice..lol!
Great place to canoe, kayak, or tube it's an awesome river fed by several natural springs all year round. Several caves to look at and explore. The water temp never changes stays around 58-60 degrees and very clean! Great camping along the way and lots of wild life to film or take many great pictures.
Current river trips vary from 9 mile 1 day trips to 85 mile 7 day trips and more. They have shuttle services that will drive your vehicle to wherever your pull out or stop will be so your vehicle is waiting on you. I highly recommend this place to visit!

  • I love this video! I usually do this same stretch of the Current once a year in my Pungo 120. After watching this, I think I need a rat terrier too.

  • @mbecker130 We love the upper current river they are great floats to paddle! Yeah you need a rat terrier if you dont have one!! fearless little dogs! lol we are heading up there again around the end of winter to check out the scenery. Its much different than summer time you get a whole different perspective of the scenery with no underbrush or leaves on trees. Plus you will get to see some eagles flying on the river as well hunting for fish.

    thanks for comment

  • I don't see any tail wagging going on.

  • @ohiobill2 lol....true

  • Cool video. I'm trying to find a kayak that will hold me (155lb) and my 70lb dog. The weight of both of us seems to put us in the upper end of most kayaks. Does having the dog in front like that mess up your balance?

  • @veggiem0nster No affect on balance at all! My dog only weighs 13lb lol yours on the other hand might be a different story, lol. If you get a tandem kayak it wont be a problem at all it should handle perfect!

  • Man I loved watching this video! Made me want to be out there right now.

  • Did you have to introduce this to your dog early on? How did it become so comfortable or was it its own idea?

  • ha ha the whole time I was watching this I was kinda hoping he would fall off! lol I love the part when he is facing you like a drill Sargent or a paddling coach very serious looking. I want to get a little dog now and place him on my dagger approach! Great video! Thank you for sharing.

  • I just bought a dachshund a couple weeks ago and I'm gonna start doing this with my dog as soon as I can save up enough for a quality kayak boat. I'm thinking about getting a wilderness systems. The only challenge will be to get the dog to not be afraid of water.
