Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach Live at Session 54th
Painted From Memory
Such a picture of loveliness Didn't you notice the resemblance? Doesn't it look like she could speak?
Those eyes I tried to capture They are lost to me now forever They smile for someone else
Funny, how looks can be deceiving But she's not easily painted from memory
You'd think that I would know by now Those eyes I tried to capture They are lost to me now forever They smile for someone else
And so this had to be painted from memory
She is gone, and I must accept it She is lost to me now But I can't look away just yet though She smiles for someone else
And so this had to be painted from memory Funny, now I can see how looks can be deceiving And so this had to be painted from memory Funny, now I can see how looks can be deceiving

Brilliant !!! Elvis and Burt were destined to record together. One review of this song said "a box of kleenex won't be enough as you listen". I have to agree.....
Not sure why you think my comment is strange. I was responding to the guy who said that EC makes the music sound like a "lounge act" Lyrically it's very Elvis, melodically it is PURE B.B. If EC had a hand in the music/ melodies (which I'm sure he did), he was very much thinking of being true to BB's style. The lyrics are in a sense subservient to the melody. Also, the instrumentation is very B.B. If you think it's elevator music (which I don't), I wouldn't be pointing the finger @ Costello.
