Calvin Jones performs his Whitewater Chopped Sticks at the Rapid City Civic Center to a full house. Might have had too much caffeine or something but this is the hyperspeed version! Enjoy.

  • Some people can't appreciate artistry. Calvin Jones has been writing music since he was ten if memory serves. If 77orchidjim and rikkitytom think they can do better, I would suggest that they put their money where their mouths (or in this case, fingers are) and post videos of their own.

  • Best part was from 0:20 - 2:22! :)

  • perfect! ;-)

  • It is a show piece. For that purpose it is not bad.

There was a time when many serious violinists would have considered Paganini Caprice 24 nothing but a show piece and indeed it is. Lots of people still don't take it seriously... I mean compare it with Bruch's Concerto #1 in G Minor which at least has a similar romantic feel. Does not mean I don't still love hearing Paganini.

Sorry you can't enjoy the artistry of this novel piece. The fingering would make Hannon proud. The arpeggios are something out of Rachmaninoff. The inventiveness is Scott Joplin.

It is fun, tough, and great!

  • Good grief ..... this is horrible. Thumping and pounding and not a shred of musicality to be found. And it's popular with pageant contestants for what reason, I can't figure out. Except that if you hit a wrong note, it'll never be missed.
