She won't give up the stick! Even hanging on when she is lifted off the ground... She loves playing like this, and will actually let go immediately if I say' thank you' - but it's more fun to try pulling it from her!

  • Must be a great way to exercise your biceps, lol!

  • yes, 16.5kg of little dog wriggling around... but she looks cute sometimes - matildathelittlestaffie (dot) c o m

  • If a dog wins at a game of tug, with a stick or toy it learns that he has power... MY ped staff at 5months will listen to me. I always win and "leave" means LEAVE. I don't think someone wants a such a powerful and strong breed being higher then you in your peckin order.

  • Hi, as I mentioned in the video description though she is trained to leave on command...

  • @markhillary how did you get her to drop the stick or even her toys? I've got a 10week old Staffy and he loves to play games like this but I have to avoid them coz he just wont leave go and growls at me if I try to get it from him. Only occasionally will he willingly drop it, such as in "Fetch" but other times he spoils the game by playing tug of war instead =(

  • @Demonickitten666 Best to start when they are young. You need to remove toys and things from the dog and let her know that you can come and take things. Use food to reward her for allowing you to do that and if she growls, use a water pistol to give her a little shock and surprise, but without actually hurting her. I'm sure it is still possible with an older dog, just harder because the possessive behaviour will be more ingrained... same applies to food.

  • dogs have confidence too, so don't be afraid to let it win now and again. Just assert yourself all around and it will be completely obedient, even if you always let it win.

It should naturally assess your position, unless you have what it sees as "weakness".

  • why the fuk are you watching videos about them then? i love my 3 staffy's, and great vid!

  • Can I ask why roncadello?
