  • R.I.P Centralia

  • Throwback

  • I was born in '83, so I missed this town in its prime and am embarrassed to say I'm not sure how much of this is Centralia proper. When exactly is it visible? It's easily recognized around 1:25 until at least 2:04; is that what is seen as an overlook from 2:05 to 2:16? Obviously after that it's on the way to Bloomsburg. Do any earlier times include Centralia?

  • im from nearby mount carmel and growing up in tha 90s, we used to run our beagles through Centralia, never seen it like this though. thanks for tha throwback!

  • Thanks for this footage. I used to drive through Centrailia occasionally in the late 70s and it was still quite a nice town. I drove through it about a week and a half ago (10/19/10) for the first time in about 25 years and could not believe it. How sad (and spooky too).

  • I like this footage of Centralia before the disaster took place. It's also neat to see everything the way it was back in the day. Footage like this is very valuable, I would definitely take superb care of it.

  • Wow! At :51 the main drag through Ashland looks very much now like it did then! Thank you so much for posting this! This footage is precious! As was said in the movie "The Town That Was," "we know how to start towns, but we don't know how to finish them." Maybe we never really do. Centralia may not exist on any maps anymore, but the town lives on in the hearts of those who called it home.
