Learn one very simple way, using the mask of the Black & White Gradient Map Adjustment layer to conceal or reveal parts of the image in color and other parts as a black and white version .

  • This is my first time using photoshop, and this video was so easy to follow, it was clear and I loved it!! Thank you!!!

  • @dumblueydblond Thank you. Glad to hear that, as my objective is to explain things in such a way that even beginners can immediately accomplish more complex tasks in Photoshop.

  • the way you explain is great. Even a kinder garden would understand. This is truly the best photoshop tutorial I've ever watched! My photo went out perfectly. I seen someone using the same idea as you suggested but he didn't explain it well so I looked for where the black and white is in CS2 (he had CS 3) for 30 mins :(

thanks for being so patient to explain this to us all! and good luck with everything.

  • Thank you for your kind words---YOU are my target audience!

  • You certainly could do it that way, but it's certainly not any easier--just another way to do it. In fact if you use the eraser, then you can't change your mind, like you can with a mask. The results would look the same, but using the eraser limits editability.

  • I did'nt know half of what you teach when I graduated college so when I found your vids. and stayed with you for this long I feel on top of the world when I do very fine renderings for someone. Some people have even asked me "did you do that"

I still have much to learn therefore, thanks for being there as an excellent teacher!!!

  • @msartyme Awe thanks! I am happy for you!
