The great Italian soprano Claudia Muzio (1889-1936) in Lauretta's aria "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi. The recording was made in 1918 for Pathé. Between the late 1910s and early 1920s, Muzio was a leading soprano in the Italian repertoire at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. It's worth noting that she created the role of Giorgetta in Il tabarro, in the world première of Puccini's triple-bill, Il trittico, on 14 December 1918 at the Metropolitan Opera (Meanwhile, the role of Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi was created by Florence Easton on the same day).
The English translation of the sung text is written by Giuseppe Cusmano

She sings so effortlessly, where others struggle, she's born with the voice it's just
so natural to her.
She must be in the top 10, such an exceptional voice of sheer pathos. Thanks mucho.

Amazingly, Muzio was in the world premiere of Il Trittico at the Metropolitan in 1918, but she did not sing Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. She sang Giorgetta in Il Tabarro. Neither Muzio nor Geraldine Farrar, who created Suor Angelica, recorded a single note of the rôles they actually sang.
