Over ten years ago I picked up a CD of Cardoso called “TAÑIDOS” (Música barroca española, 1992) in which he plays compositions by such greats as Gaspar Sanz and other early Spanish guitar music. I liked the Sanz so much that I spent the next couple of years collecting everyone who ever played Sanz. I got Hopkinson Smith, John Williams, Julian Bream, Segovia, Yepes and many others. What I discovered is that NONE of these guitarists came even close to playing Sanz as well as Cardoso's versions!!!
