My beliefs are Liberal on every issue, social and economic. I vote liberal in every provincial election. I vote for liberal mayors and councilors. As an Albertan I will never vote federal Liberal as long as I live. Then entire history of or province is a history of getting fucked in the ass by Ottawa. Right from our formation as a mercantlist-style colony for eastern business to NEP to Dion's green shift. Harper nailed it in his summation of liberal policy: "screw the west, get the rest"

Trudeau overlooked the nastiness of Western Canada. He appeased them and now look what we have as our prime minister, an ultra right wing, christian fundamentalist from Alberta with Americanized views. It's a disaster. They play down Trudeau like he was the worst PM that ever existed. It's an absolute catastrophe what we have today in parliament.

Trudeau made many mistakes in regards to the West but he is not as anti-Western as western populists or separatists make him out to be. I am left-of-centre but I agree that the NEP was a disaster for Alberta - even from a leftist perspective - corporations lobbied Trudeau to remove taxation on oil corporations in the NEP and the NEP turned to demand taxes from Albertans. In the constitutional talks, Trudeau backed the West's stance of opposition to special status for Quebec that Levesque wanted.
