I don't agree however that one must go through the Catholic church to find Jesus, nor that one must go through a priest to confess sins and be absolved. I'm sure it gives people someone to talk about them with whom they can (hopefully) trust, and in Scripture we are told to confess our sins to one another (not just the priest, note).

(Yes, I am Protestant).
