No, you're not. I'm mad about her. She probably is the greatest mezzo ever to have left her voice on record. I should know. I'm mad about mezzos and know them all. What happens is that this unbelievably beautiful aria became associated to Ms Horne in such a way that it might as well be renamed "Mon coeur s'ouvre a la voix de Marilyn Horne." There are so many videos of her singing it live that people have left their comments there. But this studio recording is absolutely brathtaking.

Wie kann man nur Horne mit Berganza vergleichen? Die eine todlangweilig (sorry), die andere ein Spaßvogel mit der unvergleichlichen Stimme. Hab sie leider live nur in Recitals erleben dürfen, aber sie ist wirklich eine DER Stimmen des 20. Jahrhunderts, kein Zweifel.

I remember hearing an interview once, during a Metropolitan Opera broadcast, with a long-time coach (forget his name). Anyway, he was asked to name the greatest singers in his experience there. After naming Caruso and Ponselle, he included the incomparable Marilyn Horne. Besides a fantastically beautiful voice, she sings with taste refinement, and supreme musicianship. She is one of a kind!!
