This is part of the Edward Albee play, "Zoo Story."

Directed by J. Soren Viuf
Starring Rich Ornelas and Edwin Bailey

The constraints of the project: It had a 4-minute limit (which I broke) and it was a very hurried casting and rehearsal process (about a week), so I selected the segment of the play which could be easily memorized and give equal number of lines to both characters, not to mention have a semi-climactic structure. Hence the line changes (some of which were improvised) and blocking.

  • im doing this play for my acting clas...(not the whole thing) I play as jerry and in this video he makes up some line or gets them completely wrong, i start from "I said i want this bench, and im going to have it, so get overe there." and i have all my lines memorized and i know for a fact that this guy is a terrible actor..(im directing this towards the guy playing jerry)

  • well please upload your performance, so that we can witness perfect acting

  • thank you for this.

Lose the guy with the beard, tho. He's "acting".

  • Why "thank you for this"?

  • Hehe I'm not talking about clothes. Like, Jerry doesn't sit down until he is done with his monologue and as far as his character can be interpreted, and I have observed a lot for this one, he doesn't touch people at all - only when he tickles him, which is like a breakthrough. By the way, this is not a comedy, it's a very tragic play. Almost everything you need to know about Jerry and Peter is written in the monologue, which describes the same thing that happens between the 2 guys. :)

  • Okay I certainly don't disagree with you, but let me just explain the constraints of the project: It had a 4-minute limit (which I broke) and it was a very hurried casting and rehearsal process (about a week), so I selected the segment of the play which could be easily memorized and give equal number of lines to both characters, not to mention have a semi-climactic structure. Hence the line changes (some of which were improvised) and blocking.

  • I doubt the people who said "what a hell?" (And what the fuck at that anyway?)... and "wow. this sucks" never actually READ The Zoo Story... nor do they know who Albee even is.

    That was good.

  • I'm doing the end of this play for my final exam next week. Thanks for posting this; every resource helps.

  • the Zoo Story is kind of investigation rather than a conversation... there are Jerries and Peters everywhere...

    very nice performing

  • i didnt say im a perfect actor, and i didnt mean to say he is a terrible actor but i dont get why het threw in some random line in here and there

  • It doesnt have to be exactly the same characters. I couldnt agree more with Aqualung. Actor/director interpretations are what make acting so fun. My friend and I just did this part as a duet for a forensics tournament where Jerry was way over-the-top crazy and Peter got progressively angrier until he was full scale yelling at Jerry. We got first place with it. So, interpretations are not in any way bad.

  • amen!

  • Mr. Albee, who guards his work fiercely, would KILL these actors, chase them off the stage. Otherwise, these actors have range.

  • next time try not rewriting the script.

  • this guy is just way too nice for the role of jerry. supposed to be a bully. i guess nowadays you could just place some menacing incoherent nyc nig for a real-life scary effect.
