I am GLAD a public figure like Brady is talking about Maher's continued insensitivity to Blacks.

I listen to/watch Bill Maher a lot, and am appalled by his generalized jokes about Black people, particularly Black MEN in particular.

Um... Actually.. The black women Bill Maher has slept with, at least those we know about, have been prostitutes... And his comment wasn't "transphobic", he stated that one of them was once a male. Nothing along the lines of "That's disgusting, gender changes are wrong, you're an abomination. etc."

I hate to bring this up, but the whole "doesn't act black and isn't threatening to white people" thing has become part of Wayne Brady's branding at this point. The bit on Chapelle pretty much cemented that as an open joke.

While my perspective IS that of a black male, that is not to say that all black males think the way that I do. But the majority of jokes I've seen on both Carlton and Brady are that they aren't "black" enough, for example I can't remember who it's from but there was a skit that essentially said "Asians have Tiger Woods, white people have Wayne Brady". In my experience, and as Brady seems to think as well, when someone is called a "Wayne Brady" or there's a Brady joke it's about not being black.

But the context of the joke was that Obama had capitulated again.

Also, I'm not sure that evoking Wayne Brady is about being "black." Personally, I've always seen Wayne Brady jokes commenting more on being sterile in the way that family friendly things are sterile.

Carlton jokes typically, on the other hand, are clearly about not being "black" enough.

BUT, my perspective in not that of a black person.

I never said he has an issue with a well-spoken black man, moreso that the joke he made can give out that impression. Which is also where Brady's response comes from
