This video series showcases the progress I've made on converting a 1974 vintage AMT 18" Enterprise model kit (the last year of the 1966 tooling AKA the "long box" tooling) into a replica of the studio model seen in the classic Trek episode "The Doomsday Machine". Some minor updates will be done to the model, but they will be relatively few as the AMT kit is essentially screen accurate for the Constellation.

I am in the home stretch now as Part 7 showcases some of the paint weathering and the decal work. After all the decals are applied, I will flat coat the model and apply some pastel chalk weathering to finish it up. So there isn't that much work left to complete the model. She's looking good!

  • I have nothing but admiration for skills like yours that I don't have and don't think I ever will.

As someone who built several Enterprise models when I was a kid (pretty much unadorned out-of-the-box efforts), it's funny to see your work to *intentionally* have the nacelles sagged and askew! But was it harder for you to replicate the exact angles of the original?

  • @DesiluTrek Actually it wasn't considering how bad the pylon angles were on the 1966 vintage kit toolings. They corrected that problem in the mid-1970s with newer tooling. All I did was stick the left pylon square into the hole and it replicated the angle perfectly. Keeping the right one straight was a little more difficult to achieve.

  • I had a problem once, I had airbrushed a tank with acyrilic paints, weathered it , rust , dirt, etc... Well the problem came in when I used a can of clear over it, it pulled the primer coat up through the detail airbrush work and it was gone... ! lol, well live and learn. Really nice work. thanks for posting. I have this kit and several years ago made a mess out of it, going to try and save it, light it up.... Jeff
