Well, that explains why the telegraph systems involved very tiny angels (the positive "electricity") as well as very tiny demons (the negative "electricity.")

Bell's phone patent was in February 1876, Elisha Gray did the same on the same day the 14th. There was a problem in Gray's paper work so he just let it go.

Can I just correct just thing? The telephone was actually invented in 1876 not 1901.
