  • A very classly arrangement to cloth Johnny Desmond's voice. Thanks for the interesting post!

  • @callmeBe yeah,indeed.. check also my post of All the things you are and Long ago and far away, by Johnyy Desmond and in german too

  • @annanoli Greetings, I won't go any further, because I have the original CD set. I think these recordings reach to the pinnacle of Miller's career, when he allowed his arranging staff to write far more neuanced work, with the added ability to use a strings. That version of "Long Ago And Far Away" is just to die for. These were recorded in 1944? Listen to Charlie Barnet's 1949 version of "All the Things You Are," featuring Maynard Ferguson (on UTube)--what a change (growth) in 5 yrs!!!!!!

  • @callmeBe

yes, you're right...even in 1946 Tex Beneke recorded "La Rosita",which had already boppish flavour...

however with my band we try to stand well in the swing era.

search on utube for Artie Shaw ALONE TOGETHER by NP Big Band

    regards paolo

  • I have always enjoyed the music of Glenn Miller, great post. Thank you for subscribing to my videos...Friends, Lloyd.

  • @annanoli (Not to introduce other influences into the music--ie, swing influenced by bop) This is a personal choice/commitment on your part, and I highly respect that. Myself, I think the most interesting big band music recorded was around 1949 when the bands where fully mature in their swing style, but had bop overtones. Again, however, that is ONLY my choice, and it is highly bias. I did listen to some of your posts, and I'll direct my comments in those places. Great stuff, Paolo!!
