The SRA Reading Lab is a valuable resource for teachers in providing differentiated instruction during reading and language arts. Providing multilevel learning materials in one classroom package, it offers individualized reading instruction to all your students.
The reading materials and skills exercises in the Reading Lab are organized into a series of color-designated difficulty levels to include above, on level, and below average for the target grade or age group. The Student Record Book contains the Starting Level Guide, which will help determine the color level at which each student should enter the Power Builder component. It also gives students a first taste of what it is like to read a Power Builder story and answer associated questions. A Placement Chart in the Teacher's Handbook will let the teacher know at which color level to begin their student.
These are the same questions I have and yet to be answered.

It is hard to find a decent video on YouTube that clearly explains and offers specific examples of what differentiated instruction is exactly. Most explanations are filled with educational jargon and sweeping attempts to define something that must, at its heart, be shown. One question that I have is "what exactly would a student who does not understand a lesson fully do differently than a student who does comprehend a lesson fully?" And, "How does the slower student ultimately catch up?"
