The thing is, the idea of this Sherlock was so it could relate to a contemporary audience, and it did. Benedict brought some new and diverse to the screens that we rarely see in television now days. They stripped Sherlock Holmes and added a modern twist but kept the basic storyline, I think it was incredibly clever, and out of all the Sherlock Holme's films and programs I've seen, I do genuinely believe Benedict portrays Sherlock's character as one of the best.

the problem with Robert Downey Jr.'s role in the movie, was that the character seemed to... flimsy. He didn't seem nearly as intelligent as Benedict's character, and there was too much fighting instead of solving. Too much fluff. The US movie was good in its own way, but comparing it with BBC, I can see why Ben won.

@InuKag4eva Me too! War Horse was amazing, and I can't wait for Star Trek 2 in which he plays the villain. He does/will do voice-overs in the Hobbit, and he's in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, too, but that's rated R, so I may not be able to watch that one. Also, Masterpiece Contemporary has this awesome mini series called The Last Enemy which stars him. It's great so far!! :D Have fun!

He's been named best Sherlock ever also by The Telegraph..with Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett in the second and third place respectively...

I love Benedict Cumberbatch. I first saw him in "Sherlock," but I then made it my mission to watch any and all films, TV shows, radio shows, etcetera that he's been in. Still working on it! He is such a talented actor.

@RANDOMFREAKSHOWCO I agree. In my mind Cumberbatch, Brett, and Rathbone are the best of the best. For me Brett and Benedict swap often for first place in my heart.
I don't get why people were upset that Benedict won. He brought something new and fresh to a very old character. We get to see the traditional method in the 21st century. He was cast perfectly and isn't just a "flavor of the month" actor. He's the best Sherlock I've ever seen and I've seen them all. Basil should've been tied or at least a close second though. now RDJ as Sherlock *is* flavor of the month.
