The American league ruined this guy's football career, he had all the talent a guy would want. but they were stupid and they started playing him at 14. NEVER can a football player start at 14. the minimum is 16 nowadays, and that's for the rare few, Rooney, Messi, Giggs. Not even C. Ronaldo started at that age, he started at 17.

who knows if he really is 21. Ghananian footballers are notorious for falsifying age. They do this to impress Western clubs to buy there poor players. Who knows if Freddy Adu's real age is 23, 24 or 25?. I wouldn't be surprised. Most African soccer players use younger ages to get better contracts. If Freddy real age is higher this would explain why he hasn't improved much, and has become the biggest flop in US soccer history. I doubt he was 14 when they discovered him. probably was 17 or 18

Freddy Adu WAS the best 13-year old talent in the world by far in 2003., the problem was he was used as marketing gimmick and put in a league as a 14-year old vs 30-year olds and that stunted his true development. Since he had to perform rather than grow as a player and learn. he still is a phenomneal playe though as last year as a 19-year old he was the best player on the pitch vs Spain and Argentina....................
