Erich Hartmann was the most successful fighter pilot of the Second World War, with 352 victories to his credit.

Only 20 years old when he joined the 9th squadron of the 52nd Fighter Wing in the Ukraine, by July 1944, Hartmann had gained the Knights Cross with Oak-Leaves, Swords and Diamonds.

Hartman' s technique was to approach to within 150 yards of his target before opening fire. It was an extremely hazardous tactic, but by August 1944, Hartmann had won 301 victories.

In February 1945, Hartmann took command of the 52nd Fighter Wing. On May 8th 1945, the day of Germany's surrender, Hartmann shot down a Soviet fighter for his 352nd kill. He was the last Luftwaffe pilot of World War 2 to claim a victory.

I do not understand why you chose to compare on these terms: Germans forced to fly every flyable hour with practically no rest vs. Americans who flew for 250hr and then were forced to go home! Bong managed to get himself on the second tour becasue he hated the war bond sales tour AAF made him go on! I see it as a blessing: You fly your hours and then get ot hell out of the hell hole!

  • @zaostrog i was simply pointing out that in 1940 the R.A.F.......was a match for the Luftwaffe !! if they was not !! hitler would have invaded england !! no one is denying the skill of the luftwaffe.......but the R.A.F......did win the battle of britain !!

  • @eunoway you got to be uninformed..only Me 109 was produced by number of 35 000

oand check how much bombers allies lost...without fighters or transports...

  • @frustriert thats why you fly to space stationn MIR in their rocket

  • to all did you even know that the top 150+ fighter ace pilot in the world is all GERMANS

Erich "Bubi" Hartmann(ger)=352 (top ace of all time)

Hans-Joachim Marseille(ger)=158 (Destroyed most Western Allied aircraft.)best in west front:)

Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer(ger)=121 (top night fighter ace - all kills at night)

Ilmari Juutilainen(finland)=94(top ace on germany's allies)

Ivan Kozhedub=62 (Highest scoring Allied Ace of WWII)

    Richard I. Bong=40 (Highest scoring U.S. Ace)LOL

  • I don't wish to belittle the mans achievements. But fighting in the East he wasn't coming up against Typhoons, P51,s, Spitfires, Thunderbolts etc. On the Western front every time the Luftwaffe attacked the Allied bombers they were bounced from above. The Allies in the West had control of the sky's by 1945 and for Hitler it was only a matter of time.

  • Erich, a great ace!!!

  • @Cool2BCeltic

If you kill enough people you get a medal :D Its worth it!
