this is the first test run of the CNC router i am building. i've tried to build it entirely from scrap and parts i have in the house. the only bit's i've had to buy for it so far are the bearings and the threaded bar used for the drive screws.
i'm fairly pleased with progress so far. there is about 0.5mm play in the X axis but the Y and Z axis are far better so i'm confident i can tighten that up.
i need about 0.1mm precision for cutting circuit boards with SMT components.
the control software i'm using is EMC2. it's open source and looks really good so far.

  • Any progress on this project? I am in the beginnings of making a CNC from scratch as well and am impressed with your little setup. nice work, especially for salvage. Wondering if that poor little stepper motor you have enslaved on the z axis has been replaced by a beefier unit? Cheers and thanks.

  • All in all I'd say it was pretty successful. Good job
