Looks more annoying than anything. You have to navigate to a different screen just to turn down the radio. looks pretty cool at first for that time but actually pretty stupid.

I have only seen one of these in person in my entire life! And that was 20 years ago. Thanks for uploading this!

@GenericUser19xx Well, there's a reason this feature didn't take off... it was costly, and was a major distraction.

Just goes to show all this "New" technology today isn't really new at all it was around 20-30 years ago it's just gotten cheaper (And less reliable)

Most fun I ever had developing code. I wrote the editing program in 1984 and I'm told it allowed the users to create/update the screens from months down to weeks of effort. Funny thing, IBM came in like 1985 and convinced Delco that they wanted to put 8088 processors in the cars instead of the existing procs.. IBM never did deliver the editing software to replace my stuff, but mine was mothballed. That was the end of the displays in the cars. It was ahead of it's time!!!

I was the programmer at Delco Electronics (part of a group with the cool name "Computer Techniques") that created the program that did all the graphics for the touch screen. This was a VSFortran program that would display the screens on an IBM 3279 computer terminal so that the user could add the buttons, lines, etc.. I added the ability to "reverse engineer" existing eprom code so that you could read prior model years displays in, modify them, and then generate new "cross-assembler" code

The beeps are pissing the birds off!

brother had this as his 1st car

Those were pretty cool for visual effect, but kind of hard to fiddle with while driving.

Its like early nav center screens
This is probably more reliable than the electronic crap that's in today's cars.

=O
I had no idea these cars had touch screens. I don't care what anybody says. American cars haven't been as bad as people think they have been over the last 25 years. Yes there were some real bombs but this is not one of them. That feature in a car in1989 is flat out cool, no bones about it. That beep has got to go though.
