Corner lots traditionally provide unique design challenges. By creating a signature L-shaped plan, the design allowed for the owners to pursue their passions with the establishment of an expansive yet private garden that is connected to all the principal living spaces. The exterior façade in stone, wood siding, aluminum and stucco is a reinterpretation of the neighborhood's traditional/historical materials palette. The exterior materials permeate the interior living spaces, evidenced by the floor to ceiling double sided stone fireplace, with warmth, color and a feeling of familiarity. The home's second storey features a library and a studio, personal spaces for each of the owners, which are connected by a catwalk. Inspired by the owner's sense of nostalgia for a childhood tree house, the design of the library is evocative of a personal memory.
