Nixie IN-18 Tube Clock. Constructed of African Mahogany and solid Brass plate. Hand built by me around TubeHobby's kit. Time-separator towers with NE-2's were fabricated and added to the stock kit. See all my clocks here. http://www.badnixie.com

  • i am planning to built one in 18 nixie clock

can you advice me a little on this

    i only ordered the tubes

which kit do you think is best and where can i find a good case?

    many thanks

  • The electronics are the TubeHobby kit. This is a great kit, but it is a Multiplexed kit and the digits do not display as brightly as a Direct drive clock. If you really want the best kit out there it is the NixiChron by Jeff Thomas. I believe he will sell them without the case. Go to my website to get the link to his site

  • @441vette what do you mean direct drive, do they consume more power? Are the TubeHobby kits still visibly bright enough in a well lit room?

  • @ryanstruk1 Direct drive mean very basically one driver circuit per each tube vs multiplexing where 2 or 3 tubes are relegated to one driver and the cathodes are switched on and off very rapidly to give the impression the digit is consistently lit. Advantage of direct drive..brighter displays but more components to accomplish the task vs multiplexing which results in a slightly dimmer display but less components required. Direct drive is my preference.

  • hi

do you make that case yourself ?

  • Yes, I did.

  • @costis752715 if you intend to built it yourself, including electronics, start with in-12 or in-14. both are very cheap and easy to find on ebay (the whole clock will cost you less than 40 dollard...).
