It's the oldest and most respected major religion in South Korea. And now it's been spectacularly brought into ill-repute after senior monks from the largest Buddhist order in the country were caught red-handed setting a bad example by indulging in a cheeky little poker game.

Gambling in the country is illegal everywhere except for inside just one casino that's in the north east of the country. So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that these monks - who are from the Jogye Order - seen here smoking, drinking and flipping playing cards on the floor of a luxury hotel room are flouting the law.

As soon as the footage was aired on national TV yesterday, 6 of the 8 monks in the room offered to resign. Leader Master Jinjea, a high-ranker from the order -- who wasn't even there at the time - said on local TV 'Those monks committed a foolish act and I confess my sin for their wrongdoings'

It was a fellow monk who secretly shot the footage and then tipped off the police and the media. Do you reckon he's taken himself off for a long holiday right now?

I'm Marverine Cole. That's all from me for now but for more news check out our website: ibtimes.co.uk

Wall Street gambling is a lot more at stack. They put the entire country at risk.

Yes, and nobody ever goes to jail for it. That's the main problem, all these crooks everywhere.

Dummy, read the whole of what I said. I stated that anti-Catholic bigots will bring up Catholic priests. Context, dude.

Me? A moron? Your first comment said stuff about Catholics being pedophiles: "you will hear more about Catholic priests"

And you just admitted you're a Catholic. Stupid troll!

I would not boast about Catholics being pedophiles, because I am Catholic. You are clearly the moron, here. Good idea: do not reply.

Dude, I meant that it could be a reason, quit tripping. And you make no sense. First you boast about how Catholics are pedophiles then you freak out as soon as if you're religious. I ain't gonna reply to you anymore 'cause crazy people like you ain't worth my time.

You misunderstood. I never said you agree with child molestation. I said that I disagree with your belief that prohibition of sex leads to sex abuse. This is actually an insult to people like me. I do not have a wife or girlfriend, and I have been single for many years, yet I have never, nor will I ever, have sex with a child or otherwise sexually abuse any one. So my point is simple: if a person abuses someone sexually, it has to do with his or her evil mind and 'heart.' Thanks, hulk.

I said: "They do it because sex is prohibited from their lifestyle & temptation takes over them". You act like I agree with it but I have been raped and molested so don't even think for a section that I think it's right. I am a victim of child abuse & rape.

Clearly you missed out the part where I said "It's wrong & sick". Read my comment again before you judge.

In addition, a child sex predator is, by definition, NOT celibate. Remember: they are having sex with others, children (in this case). And it makes sense that such a person was never celibate or even abstinent, that such a person has always (during their time as clergy) engaged in illegal sexual conduct (towards children or others).

Yes... obviously, because in the West anti-Catholicism is a past time, you will hear more about Catholic priests. However, they are no more likely than anyone else to abuse children. I must correct you, however, on your logic, that celibacy leads to pedophilia. Plenty of people find themselves sexually deprived, for whatever reason, and I think it is clear they would NEVER turn to rape or molestation of others. I, for example, have been single for many years and would never do such a thing.
