So here is the latest: the middle is done. Now they are working on the edges.
The Padre and Dodge are tag teaming at the Nags Head Pier heading north. Basically the 3300 and 3400 blocks are the active construction area, from Curlew to north of Bainbridge Street.
Down at milepost 21.75, the Liberty Island is pushing toward the southern boundary of the project.
They were not quite to McCall Court this morning, having reached about the 10400 block of Old Oregon Inlet Road.
But what you're really wondering is about the hurricane that's out there. Right ow, the forecast is for landfall some time Saturday morning. Great Lakes Dredge and Dock says they will move the dredges out and head to Norfolk 72 hours before predicted landfall. Well, that's today! Roberta at the town says they will leave at midnight tonight.
Dare County Emergency Manamgent is meeting at 5pm today, and they plan to issue their next update at 7.
Oh, and I took some "before hurricane" shots for posterity. Especially around the Outer Banks Pier,
it will be interesting to see if the "older" nourished beach on the north side will fare any different from the just-finished nourished beach on the south side.
