Ride a bicycle and save thousands of dollars per year if you sell your car. Even if you don't sell your car you can save hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars per year on expenses.
Bicycles need to be properly adjusted to you. Many seats are uncomfortable so you should try several at a shop to find the right one for you.
There are many different types of bicycles too. Find the one that is comfortable for you. Don't get a racing bicycle unless you are a racer. Get something comfortable. If you want to be super comfortable and are willing to spend a little more money get a recumbent. I love them. For riding on the roads nothing beats the comfort of a recumbent bicycle. Most of them are faster than regular bicycles because they are more aerodynamic.
Only ride in the direction of the flow of traffic. NEVER ride against the flow of traffic. It is illegal and deadly. Bicycles have the same rights to the roads as cars. Bicycles are legal vehicles that are part of traffic. If you are driving a car and you pass a bicycle riding on the road you MUST CHANGE LANES COMPLETELY! You can not be in the same lane side by side. It is illegal for a car driver to pass that way.
People ride to and from work year round in Canada and Florida. You just need the right clothing to make it work.
With a rack and panniers (bags on the rack that carry cargo) one can carry enough groceries for a large family in one trip. Small children and pets can be towed by bicycle using a wind and water tight trailer. Trailers also haul large cargo loads well.
Become a cyclist and keep your money in your pocket. It helps the country and the environment too.

I do not race bicycles. Just make sure everything on your bicycle is working properly and is adjusted and lubricated. Replace worn parts with new ones. These tips should be done on non-racing bicycles too.

Do you ride your bike?

I ride my bicycle regularly, even in winter. I use studded tires and chemical heat packs when the temperatures are below 20 degrees.
