CITY COUNCILMAN CHARLES BARRON QUESTIONS THE DISMANTLING OF THE BLACK UNITED FUND OF NEW YORK BY GOVERNOR SPITZER
An unprecedented ... all » press conference is scheduled for 12:30 PM, Tuesday, December 18, 2007 on the steps of City Hall to bring to light the many unanswered questions surrounding the controversial "investigation" initiated in 2002 and the subsequent takeover in 2003 of the Harlem-based non-profit Black United Fund of New York by then Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer announced in May 2003 that the replacement of the entire board of directors with a board of all Republican appointees was "to help BUFNY flourish" and to "breathe new life into BUFNY, and help shepherd its finances and programs." Unfortunately BUFNY, has not flourished in fact it doesn't exist anymore. Its former headquarters is now the home of Harlem Lounge the "Shrine", a bar. Speakers, in addition to Councilman Barron, include Kermit Eady, BUFNY founder and former president and CEO; Larry Barton, former vice president and general manager; and James McIntosh, MD, CEMOTAP (Committee to Eliminate Media Offensive To African People) co-chair.
