THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO brings to a close American cinema raconteur extraordinaire Whit Stillman's unofficial trilogy about the neuroses of the young and upscale. Following Metropolitan and Barcelona, this is a clever and sparkling return to the nighttime party scene in early eighties Manhattan. At the center of Stillman?s roundelay of revelers are the icy, commanding Charlotte (Kate Beckinsale) and the demure, pragmatic Alice (Chloe Sevigny), by day toiling as publishing house assistants, and by night looking for romance and entertainment at a premier, Studio 54?like club. Brimming with Stillman's trademark dry humor, The Last Days of Disco is an affectionate yet unsentimental look at the end of an era.

  • It's not very often when a TRAILER makes you want to start dancing.

  • @jblacktree

Go listen to Krzysztof Penderecki's "Dimensions of Time and Silence" and cool down.

How honestly can you care about this "trust fund" line of prejudice? Art is art, personal details be damned. Polanski may have raped a girl. Doesn't mean 'Repulsion' isn't marvelous. And 'Last Days of Disco' is really good art, despite the vacuity of some of it's characters. I don't understand what "form critique" you're speaking of.

I've heard enough cliches...anything original in your critiques?!

  • God I miss the disco era angel's flight pants and polyester shirts and the big hair and the fun.

If you were not there you missed one heck of a time.

The clothes the cars and the gas shortage wasn't like today.

Miss my first car a new version in 1978 of the Ford Mustang it was just so much freaking fun.

You can never know the era unless you had lived it and enjoyed it.

  • The problem with this movie is that it did not feel as though it was 1980,i mean the clothes and hair styles seems to be 1990's more than 1980! I mean come on Kate Beckensale has what seems to be a Jennifer Aniston hair style that all the chicks had during the 90's

  • great soundtrack it took you back to disco days

  • @gaguy1967 Whoa! You're absolutely right! How embarrassing.

  • @GeeWizzers1 except that Last Days takes place in 1980 and Metropolitan takes place in 1990

  • God I'm so happy Whit Stillman is finally coming out with another film

  • In the way "Metropolitan" looked at the social lives of preppies without criticism, "Last Days..." looks at the lives of the yuppies that the preppies grew up to be.

  • @FungusMossGnosis

best youtube comment I read in ages. I cracked up badly. And you made an excellent point. You're the man, man.

  • I love the movie but dancing all the nighs with high heels is very destructive

  • omg one of the best movies of the 20th century!!!!
