Get and read Mike Spatola's book on makeup effects. He's got a section on aging in the book. Great book. Whether for film or stage you CAN blend so that the effect of making someone look like they're old up close WILL read in a large theater setting. Just the same as one who is older looks old on stage, blending the age makeup to look real up close WILL render the same effect from a distance to make them look older as well. Someday the DVD's will be out. I don't video anymore.
@TonyDi if you think shes doing it wrong then PLEASE make a video on how to do old age. i am in highschool and am very serious about doing makeup as a career when i am older. i have to do the makeup for the school play in january and i really want to be amazing
Whatever you think is what you'll do. I didn't say it but I've been doing theater makeup for over 50 years and I too know what it takes. And you can emphasize ANY feature and still blend it so it's not so stylized - much like high opera makeup of eras past. There is no substitute for keeping features softened and devoid of hard harsh lines. Express your opinion but don't tell me - I've been there and done that for far too long . It's your opinion. I'm pointing out the obvious
Actually this process IS done correctly. You do not want to blend on stage or the effect is lost. If this were to be for film or photo, then, Yes, you would need to blend the lines.
This video was VERY helpful. I am doing makeup for Into The Woods, and I was stumped as how to do the makeup for the witch. Thank you for taking the time to tape this!
When will they ever teach actors or would-be makeup artists to learn how to do these processes properly? For pity's sake learn the proper way. College classes on makeup are the worst bit of junk I've EVER seen. Experience is best. Come on for God's sake-buy Corson's book and LEARN how to do it right. LEARN HOW TO BLEND the makeup. Geez! I guess I have to do some videos on these processes to get the point across.

Tis is the only viseo I have found on youtube that even comes close to teaching the process of old age make up.
