A lack of skilled labour and an ageing population has long been a problem in the meat processing industry with the working life of older workers in the boning room limited due to the physical demands of certain roles. A solution to the problem has been found in the form of a robotic arm. The development aids with the physical demands of the particular roles broadening the number of staff that can carry out the duties. Results from trials are indicating that the arm not only provides benefits in terms of OH&S, but increases production through higher throughput and increased yield.
