Three songs from the 1966 movie version of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse's "Stop The World, I Want To Get Off": Gonna Build A Mountain, Once In A Lifetime, What Kind Of Fool Am I?

This version stars veteran Broadway actor/director Tony Tanner, who, though in his 70s, continues to write, direct and act to this day.

  • I bought this video just see what the stage version might had looked like , what a bloody

disappointment , you can tell Tony had not one thing to do with it what a waste of a good show

  • I didn't think it was that bad...

  • Did you see Anthony Newley,s revival?...This guy does not have a bad set of pipes...but even during Mountain & Lifetime theres no optimism in his delivery or presence..Im a little jaded... having seen Tony live 27 times. Again thanks for posting!!

  • If you're talking about the 1978 revival, I was not alive at that point in time. I'd love to have seen Tony Newley on stage, though. Too bad I never will.

  • Just curious. Does the story in this musical dictate the conceptual style? I love the music but the mime aspect seems so alienating.

  • Sorry but I don't care for Tony's performance, something is missing like energy. I do disagree with others that Anthony Newley is indispensable. Right now the show is being revived at a nearby dinner theater. It is staring one of our local community theater stars (want to revive anything with a great staring part for a man, just call him--The Music Man, Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd, Grand Hotel are just some of his fairly recent roles) and it still makes a great impression.

  • It is dangerous when you dare to revive a show that had to do with a great man full of talent and soul as Mr Newley .. the truth I did not like the interpretation of this singer, I'm a thousand times with Tony Newley

  • I forgot I had commented on this before, sorry for the double and triple post as well.

  • Peter Scolari did a version of this on A&E some years back that was just wonderful, I think, I believe it was done in 91 or so..1990 something...It's better than this, in my opinion. He did it with Stephanie Zimbalist as Eve. I wish I could find it here on YouTube.

  • I saw this in 1968 or 69 in a new ampitheatre in Arlington. I saw all of the rehearsals, and the cast treated me like a mascot -even letting me hand out programs and sit in the frount. I felt sooo special. I can't remember if it was Newly who did the show, but it was full of big political types. It affected me the rest of my life- in s good way. I've been singing and acting since. Thanks, gang!

  • I saw Tony Tanner in a bus and truck production of GEORGE ME and I'll never forget what a great performer he was back then in my little town. It's great to have these clips from the movie. I hope I can get to see the whole STOP THE WORLD movie someday.

  • @darkb4lightt I saw him in it when he was touring, and I concur.
