HSUS Veal Slaughterhouse Undercover Investigation

On October 30, 2009, the HSUS revealed sickening scenes filmed by their undercover investigator who worked as a floor cleaner for 7 weeks at Bushway Packing, Inc., a veal slaughterhouse plant in Grand Isle, Vermont. Day-old calves are seen being kicked, beaten, and electrically shocked as they struggle in vain to stand; workers angrily cursing as the tormented animals collapse to the ground, and a baby calf was carved up and skinned alive while a USDA FSIS (Food Safety Inspection Services) Inspector stood by and watched. 5 months later and the Vermont Attorney General's Office has failed to take criminal action against the workers for clear violations of the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act. http://hsus.typepad.com/wayne/2009/10/veal-investigation.html

On March 4, 2010, Wayne Pacelle testified at a Congressional hearing before the House Oversight Committees Domestic Policy Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Dr. Wyatt, a public health veterinarian employed with the USDAs Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) for more than 18 years, testified at the same Congressional hearing that on three separate occasions he brought to his superiors attention (under both past and present administrations) that Bushway was slaughtering live animals, among other horrific acts and violations of the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act.

Dr. Wyatt was told to be quiet and threatened with losing his job. Dr. Wyatt subsequently became a whistleblower. Under this administration and thanks to Rep. If there is one person in Congress who will take definitive action against the obscene acts of cruelty inflicted upon animals destined for the food supply, it is Dennis Kucinich.
