Here's a recording of one of my RS-3L-Rs. This one was formerly on a Union Pacific engine until being retired. This horn was completely covered with diesel exhaust and grease when I got it. It was literally between 1/4" and 1/2" over the entire horn. After getting it cleaned up, it still had some UPRR gray paint, but I will eventually get around to stripping and repainting it. While I'm at it, I'm also going to do some work on the heads which had significant wear on the nozzles. Still a nice and strong sounding horn, especially with the echoes of the Kentucky hills. Recorded in June 2007.

  • Thats actually what LAMEside horns are based on!

  • @trainandhawksfan17 You're right, those "LAMEside" (ha ha) horns use a VERY BAD recording of an RS3L. I suppose they wouldn't be quite as lame had they at least started with a decent recording of one. However, better yet, they SHOULD have used a recording of an RS5T or an M5! Still not as nice (or as safe, IMO) as a real horn on a locomotive, but at least it would sound good.
