my buckets were a dollar each and there black

@sharonmarkham5 the plastic buckets still let a fair amount of light into them. The plastic helps reduce this, thus reducing your chance of algea.

why did you go with black cover on your buckets
-
@opt1c420 It dpeneds do you want to grow tall or wide...I just got my new buckets today they are $32 each, for each plant ;).
vertical lighting is optimul with this system
this system is too powerful for horizontal lighting, might as well use ocean forrest soil IMO
also i think the buckets restrict th "dripline" of the roots
13 gal and 8 gal look the same width, tall plants dont really give more yield compared to plants thats roots are able to grow sideways furher...

@archuletajustin you're right on the vertical lighting but wrong on the container depth. when it comes to the plants i grow taller containers always do better than short squat containers due to the root system of said plant. You want to plant a spruce tree in a square dwc setup go ahead.
That being said this was a demo setup and i prefer the 8gal buckets for horizontal lighting setups; especially ones using less than 1k ballasts.

@mregulater cch20.com go from there if you want to diy but you won't save that much and you have to line up the cuts on the buckets just right
