Birdo used to be a boy but then nintendo wanted another girl for the party and sport games so Birdo is a girl now but she used to be a boy. So Yoshi and Birdo are a couple.

According to IGN, in the first game that Birdo was in, the manual states that Birdo is a guy and he just identifies as a girl, like a tranny.

Drey, don't listen to these screwballs. Birdo is a transsexual female, but that doesn't mean she isn't female. These people are just trans-hating bigots who have nothing better to do than degrade the transsexual community because they're so ignorant.
