The German model train maker Märklin has run out of money and declared bankruptcy. Michael Pluta has wound up many companies in his time as a liquidator and now he's looking for investors to save as many jobs as possible. Märklin is one of the best known European model train makers. It began trading 150 years ago but thanks to poor management and competition from cheap producers from abroad it has been declared insolvent. Liquidator Michael Pluta hopes he can find a buyer for the company by April 1. Kerstin Schweizer visited Märklin to find out more about the search for a new owner.

  • Hello! Houston, we got a problem: I forgot Alaska.marklinmade the Northlander and the famous F7 in yellow and blue livery.(i also forgot the letter o) Greetings from Norway!

  • Hello! Huston, we got a problem. Minitrix make the famous N-scale,LGB makes the famous G-scale. Trix.LGB,and Maerklin goes under the same company.Maerklin have made many models from USA and some for Canada. Many models have been made for export. If you for example live in Denmark you wont see this model at all.Otherwise you must be Superman.I will do anything to buy me some maerklin stuff.I`d gladely push my car to save some money for a Big Boy ... if i had to! greetings from Norway!

  • So thats who the us economy is in the shit? The investers are throwing money at everything and anything, like this.

  • Maerklin is doing quite well now.

  • Marklin should cancel both 1 and z scale, because they already have minitrix from TRIX and O from LGB. Just focus on HO, and make models from all the world, not only europe. I know europe rules on railways but take a look into China, PRR´s from USA or india railways, for example. Only on 2010 they released the french TGV...20 years delay.

  • I just purchased a new Marklin 37990 Big Boy. This is German engineering and workmanship at its best. . Marklin has design, technology and workers that do their jobs. Unfortunately the investment Company didn't rely on that resource. I read comments about a lack of available Black 4-8-4 Northerns and the 4-6-6-4's and Big Boys are always in demand. In 2009 they were making Big Boys I assume they plan a release in 2011 This American Locomotive has world wide appeal. Lets hope this is a good start
