This platform vehicle is based on LEGO Technic's 8421 Model 2. It is completely motorized which uses 6 servo motors and 1 NXT controller.

This vehicle is controlled by a joystick controller via Bluetooth.

  • Is it possible to connect Mindstorms with the normal LEGO Power Function-Engines? That would make it easier to transpose the original crane 8421 into a radio-controlled vehicle

  • @oldpinkcaddilac Do you mean physical connection or wireless connection? If you want to physically connect Mindstorms with PF, you will need to modify the cables or get the PF to 9V cable from LEGO (If you use NXT, you will need the RCX to NXT cable, too).

By means of wireless connection, you need IRLink from Hitechnic and of course suitable programming.

However, in my opinion, I don't really think making this R/C connection is simple unless you power the vehicle purely by PF (No NXT).

  • how many nxt modules are in the car?

  • @roffelblob Just 1.

  • @TycoonCoaster lol i saw 4th motor in the bottom, so there must be minimum 2 nxt blocks!

  • @xalexander1996 Well, with the motor multiplexers from mindsensors, I can control all 6 motors on the vehicle with just 1 NXT.
