TRANSCRIPT: ENGLISH LISTENING PRACTICE AND EXERCISE
1 Vocabulary And Phrases
"Prayer" (noun) is 'a solemn request for help or thanks to God or another object of worship.'
2 The moment I wake up, before I put on my makeup, I say a little prayer for you.
"makeup" (noun) means 'cosmetics such as lipstick or powder applied to the face.' "Dionne has to put on her makeup every morning."
3 While combing my hair now and wondering what dress to wear now, I say a little prayer for you.
"wondering" (from "wonder") (verb) means 'to be curious, desire to know.' "She wonders if she should wear her black or brown dress."
4 Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart and I will love you forever and ever. We never will part.
"forever and ever" (adverb) (i.e. exaggeration) means 'for all time, for eternity.' "She wishes to stay married to Ken forever and ever."
5 And how I'll love you. Together, together, that's how it must be. To live without you would only be heartbreak for me.
"heartbreak" (noun) means 'great anxiety, suffering or distress.' "It was a terrible heartbreak for her family when her father passed away."
6 I run for the bus, dear. While riding I think of us, dear. I say a little prayer for you.
The phrase "run for" is often used with 'class', 'work', 'bus', or 'train' when one is 'running late.' "She runs for the bus almost every morning."
7 At work, I just take time and all through my coffee break time, I say a little prayer for you.
"break" (noun) means 'a pause or interval, often from work or any activity.' "During her Friday afternoon break, Dionne phones Ken."
8 Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart and I will love you forever and ever. We never will part. And how I'll love you. Together, together, that's how it must be. To live without you would only be heartbreak for me.
9 I say a little prayer for you. I say a little prayer for you.
"pray" meaning 'make or offer a prayer' is the verb form (prays, prayed, praying). "Ray, Ken's dog, sometimes prays before meals."
10 Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart and I will love you forever and ever. We never will part. And how I'll love you. Together, together, that's how it must be. To live without you would only be heartbreak for me.
11 My darling, believe me, for me, there is no one but you. Please love me too. I'm in love with you. Answer my prayer. Say you love me too.
"prayer" (adjective) may be used as an adjective ('prayer book' 'prayer beads' 'prayer circle') "She always carries prayer beads with her."
12 Why don't you answer my prayer? Yeah. You know, every day I say a little prayer. I said I say, I say a little prayer.
When you feel that you received an answer to a prayer (for a grade, job, loved one etc.) you can say, "My prayers were answered!"
