My two year old son is absolutely nuts about trains... trains, trains, trains and more trains! So whenever I can I record video of trains so that he can watch them later on. This video is a compilation of several freight trains my kids and I watched pass through Union Station (Kansas City, MO). A plaque near the bridge we were standing on claims that a billion tones of freight passes through this area each year, making it the busiest area for railroad activity in the US. I must admit that it was quite incredible to see how much freight went through here in the 30 minutes we stood watching... enjoy!

  • Great video! I was there 48 hours ago and stood on the bridge in the bitter cold, but no trains came by. :( I've been crazy about trains my whole life.

  • Amazing! I was there again a few months after this video was shot, and that time only one train passed through. I think it's a bit hit and miss as to how much action there is each day. I guess we were lucky!. Funny thing is, we were actually going to leave after the first train passed through, and then it was non-stop action after the second train passed by in the video. Thanks for your comment!

  • This is me and my 18 month old son's SPOT! We like to park over in Crown Center and walk The Link all the way to the bridge as our ending spot before turning around and walking back.

  • It's a great place - Might see you there next time I'm in KC!

  • haha, your son was just like me when i was little

  • Then both of you are also like me too... :-)

  • "Daddy what's a train? Is it something I can ride? Is it filled with all those grown up folks and little kids inside? Is it bigger than our house?" Oh, how could I explain, when my little boy asked me, "Daddy what's a train?" :)

  • @Coasterrider210 i was about to say that! i was obsessed with trains, trucks, planes, and "worker men" (construction workers). haha

  • at:0.43 to the left is that union station cause i think i walked by those passengertrain cars before

  • Here is somthing funny when union pacific brings the 844 or challenger come down to film it and you end up with 25 bnsf trains in 10 minuts and 50 every hour.

  • been there

  • im 16 and i love BNSF
