In Loving Memory of Mr. Howard Portnoy Rest In Peace

As some of us know Howard Portnoy Mike Porntoy's father past away recently... Hang in there Mike! The Spirit Carries On!!!


Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has issued the following statement: "It's with the heaviest heart and deepest sorrow that I share the news of the passing of my best friend, my idol and my father, Howard Portnoy. He passed away this morning (January 4th) at 3:38 AM with his loving wife Trish and myself by his side after a 6 month battle with cancer. He was an amazing person whose lively spirit was a tremendous inspiration to me and to most people that had the pleasure to know him. He will be sorely missed by so many friends and family - but none more so than his wife Trish, his daughter-in-law Marlene, his grandchildren Melody and Max and yours truly. It's never easy losing someone you love especially you father. My father pasted when I was 17, but carrying his memory with me no matter how heavily it weighed on my heart and soul, made me stronger and able to protect that which is truly important. He has my deepest sympathy

@devouringone3 Maybe that was part of the stress but he made Black Clouds and Silver Linings after his dad passed but now he wanted a break and the rest of the band didn't. So he knew that he wouldn't have his heart in it if he just kept going. 

So he will be back, but we don't know when. May be years. Almost surely at least 1.

Mike Portnoy is no longer a part of the Dream Theater music making crew... it surely has something to do with the loss of his father.
