If your envisioned scenario might need a larger blade for defense and a fixed blade is too big, too heavy, look here. The BM 710 is a near perfectly executed large tactical folder. This model is in 154CM steel, current ones are produced in D2. Either way it will serve you well. Yes it's over 4 ounces (4.8) in weight but compared to some other fixed blade alternatives, you'll still come out way ahead. It has a beautifully shaped blade, wicked fast deployment, Benchmade-tight lockup, and superb fit and finish. Improvements could include more aggressive checkering on the G10 scales and making the thumb jimping sharper. But as it stands, it's a favorite. In the video I also address some of the philosophy of use for this blade and others large folding tacticals like it.

  • @austin316132402 Nutn is obsessed about weight because he thinks as a soldier. Supposing you carry 75 pieces of gear on the field, which is entirely possible nowadays. Each and everyone of them is two ounces above the lightest equipment available. That's ten pounds more than necessary. And, since "the best soldier isn't the one who keeps fighting so much as the one who keeps walking" (Napoleon Bonaparte), it does make a difference. Outside of survival/war, 2 ounces don't matter much, i'll admit.

  • @janroucax True, janroucax. Cavers, mountain climbers, etc will shave down weight in any way possible. They will literally take the cardboard tube out of a roll of toilet paper, and cut their toothbrush handles down. The more weight you shave off, the less you are humping around. -- Veri

  • Veri, ask Nutn which he thinks is better. The Zero Tolerance 0400, or the Benchmade 710?

  • @nutnfancy Veri never been about playin no shit!

  • @nutnfancy haha, that reply made me chuckle!

  • I am not a soldier and weight is not a big concern for me.I think the Spyderco Manix is the perfect weight to strength ratio. My Zero Tolerance 0200 and Buck CSAR-T are too heavy and want to pull my pants down at work.Just ordered a Benchmade 710.Hope it is all I heard it is.

  • Were does it rate on your likeability scale?

  • Gloves shouldn't hinder deployment on this knife. I usually wear gloves and i just depress the axis lock and flick the knife open.

    just my $.02

  • open it goddamit! :)

  • Also about extra weight in combat - combat is semi-controlled chaos, and your 3 hour mission might suddenly turn into a 3 day mission, and that extra weight will wear on you in ways you might not have expected. And you definitely don't want to be sore and slower than you need to be in combat conditions.

  • WATCH MY REVIEW OF THE BENCHMADE 710 ITS REALLY GOOD

  • I wish I still had this awesome baby... I sold it for about 95 dollars on Ebay because I just wasn't using it. It's almost too nice to beat on lol.

If you do thought it definitely will stand up to whatever you throw at it.
