Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone stopped by Brentwood High School Friday to announce that the homeless family of a senior and Intel semifinalist would soon receive a home in Bay Shore. Samantha Garvey, 17, ranked as one of the top 300 students nationwide in the Intel Science Research contest just as she and her family have been living at a homeless shelter since December. Bellone says that the new home was recently vacated and that the Department of Public Works has been renovating it. Samantha's parents have also been set up with affordable housing rates.

  • @4swordkeeper Well yeah i know what you mean, its the media who usually wants to have some news for people to watch and get high ratings so they cherry pick people to sell to the public and make the local media make themselves look good, but yes helpers out there do help a lot of people, its just that only the people with the amazing story are the ones who people usually see on TV,the ones the media chooses, but there are a lot of wonderful stories out there, but im glad she was helped

  • @triguenoable But being pretty sells. They sell everything on TV with it. Remember the homeless man from Cleveland I think with the golden voice? He was helped but he had something to offer. If you have something that can sell and will catch peoples attention they will help you just to make them look better. I'm not saying anything against the helpers. Maybe they were well meant. But some do help to make themselves look good. I'm just glad she was helped.

  • @4swordkeeper My moms side of the family are wealthy,my dad side of the family are poor,id say im like lower middle class right now,we rent a nice house,Im very sorry to hear about your situation,i really am,i think a lot of people go homeless for different reason, and i think that it doesn't matter weather homeless people are really smart like this girl or just high school drop outs, they all deserve to get helped, that is what god wants,i hope your family helps you = )

  • @4swordkeeper you are right,If she didnt do such a great thing and wouldn't of had been a finalist, she wouldn't of had been help, she is very pretty but i don't think that is why they helped her, because if she would of had been a high school drop out and a kid on drugs etc they wouldn't of had moved a finger to help someone like that, but since she actually does care about her family's well being they helped her, and she really does deserve it

  • @4swordkeeper i think a lot of people got affected because my dad is not getting paid like he use to anymore,in fact he is getting paid very little and doesn't have money saved and my moms work place is giving her a LOT of days off because they are having problem because of the economy that they cant afford to pay people like they use to,but unlike my dad,my mom does save her money luckily lol,but we are far off of homelessness, although it is possible if things get worse

  • @triguenoable But Christy Turlington is a blonde I think. She is also beautiful but I wouldnt say they look alike. I guess I need to go back and look at her photos of when she was young. I also am about to be homeless. The economy is just so bad that all I can do is travel to family and hang out. I know what its like. If she didnt do such a great thing or wasnt so pretty she wouldnt have been helped. But I'm glad she was so that she'll be taken care of. God bless her...

  • @4swordkeeper She does =D i was reading about her mom and dad, her father is White and her mother is El Salvadorian, which is curious because she also looks exactly like a young version of super model Christy Turlington who also happens to be the product of a White American father and a El Salvadorian mother too

  • I am so excited for this girl and her family. I just hope the Mom and Dad do not squander the money that she will receive through donations. You go girl, make it happen with your aspirations.

  • @kas120587 sorry bro I thought you were a bitch
