Mumias sugar company has signed a two-year partnership with the kenya agricultural research institute, KARI for research and development of faster maturing cane varieties and other ways to boost cane production. Kari has a modified regime of fertiliser that can reduce cost of production by 20 percent and increase cane yield per unit area from the current 55 tonnes per hectare to over 80 tonnes per hectare.
