Question: What about the idea that the government should be neutral and should recognize that we live in a democratic, pluralistic society?

George Grant: Inevitably, cultures are an expression of the values of a people. The values are drawn out of traditions and habits and language of a people. A culture is a legacy of faith. You can't get around that at all. Cultures that attempt to get around that are just cultures in transition from one faith to another. Culture is a manifestation of faith. G.K. Chesterton said, "A culture is the accumulation of ritual, traditions symbols and habits. Those things which grow out of a people's perception of what matters most. In other words, a culture is a legacy of faith."

Because culture is drawn out of the word cult, as T.S. Eliot says, the manifestations that we have in society, the way we relate to each other, the way we do business, the way we transact our regular rituals in community, are necessarily drawn from cult or from faith.

Religion is an inescapable concept. Everyone worships someone or something. When people start talking about some humanistic values, or putting man at the center of all things, they have turned the worship of God into a worship of self. As a result, they have propounded this notion that we are all gods and sovereign over our sphere of influence. History demonstrates that when man thinks he is in control, those are the times when society is the most out of control. Today, we have more consistently applied the religion of humanism than in any time in history and look at what it has wrought! What a societal mess it has made! Humanism is an utter and complete failure, precisely because man's actions are so arbitrary and ultimately so cruel. Humanism is a failure because we have made a god out of a creature rather than the Creator.

as a british citizen i have basically seen all my liberties been taking away from me,it started with taking our guns and then they took it further,and when i say they i mean the government! dont let your government take your guns,fight for your rights and if you do i will be behind you 100 percent of the way.

@TheSpearthrower Have you ever read the English Bill of Rights? There is stated the right to bear arms. When the British took that right away from the colonists, they began planning for a conflict. That's what Paul Revere's ride was all about. The British were marching to arrest John Hancock and seize the colonists store of weapons.

as british citizens, you are in as much danger from your government as we are in america. the only difference is we still have our guns. and with the way things are going on now days, i promise, americans will not give up their guns. maybe after we take our country back here in the states, we can load up and help you get your country back as well. both of our governments are pushing towards totalitariansm. we must stop these commies.

As a liberal, I am torn. I believe in free gun rights for all, but I also get uneasy when so many of my fellow liberals are anti-gun and these room-temp IQ'd neocon god-worshipers are stockpiling. So even if there was a government overthrow, the U.S. would probably just turn into a Christian theocracy, which would be even worse.

Actually, he is right; culture = values of people, the legacy of faith (faith = what matters most or 'belief in a particular value'): the reason this is right is because, there is NO objective morality; but he failed to mention that part. He is leading into PRESCRIPTIVE (thou shalt, thou shalt not) ethics as being a Universal Value (given by God) as a Moral Authority - which is false! Prescriptive ethics/morality (thou shalt, thou shalt not) is merely a tool to control others - which is immoral.

Everything he says has much background. He doesn't make up anything he studies constantly. Here he just starts of with the basic fact that culture is made by the religion of the people. It's true! Religion= culture externalized . He's actually quite brilliant. The sheer knowlledge he has collected the most of it he has gained after all his doctorate degrees. Dr. Grant is merely talking about the lessons of history and the effects religion has on history and a culture.

@SNIPERSTEVE420 I agree, once we bring the gangsters in Washington to justice , we need to do what we can to help our friends throw their scum into prison also. The whole world is fed up with these corrupt governments, these politicians need to be taught a real lesson, that no one will forget!!! REVOLUTION ANYONE????
