Donald E. Pease, the Director of The Futures of American Studies Institute, explains how President Obama can regain ground he's lost to birthers, tea party organzers, and death panelists and reclaim the "state fantasy." Pease is the author of The New American Exceptionalism, published in October by the University of Minnesota Press. He is a Professor of English, the Avalon Foundation Chair of the Humanities, and Director of the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program at Dartmouth College.

where in hell did this guy get the ideas he espouses about the tea party.
this man seems to be sincere but he is espousing the most ridiculous blather. either badly misinformed or intentionally propagandizing.

@tewkewl
a constitutionalist? She can't even name the country's founders! Please man, rest your nerves, Sarah Palin will NEVER run this country. Americans are ignorant, but we aren't all retarded. if it makes you feel any better, she can run a reality tv show and help her dufus daughter learn to dance with the stars, but she's a $5 ho; trying to gather up as many $5-spots as her 15 minutes allow. She's just another puppet of the Bank of Wingnuts, owned by Rupert and Corporate America...

It's official... Marxist's, Zionist's and CIA (all funded by the same bankers) have taken over our media, our schools, and our government. Lucky for us, this generation of them are the most retarded ever in history. We may yet have a fighting chance, if people would only question their motives and follow the money. But notice that is exactly what they teach, NOT TO QUESTION! "Don't Taze Me Bro"!

@tybeebeachbunny only if you are a horse with blinders. palin a nazi or klansman? palin is a constitutionalist. what she lacks in eloquence she more than makes up for in the knowledge of fundamental constitutional principles. The constitution is a document that limits the governments power while providing security. liberals believe security can only exist when government expands it's power. the antithesis of the founders thinking when drafting the document.

@hyppolitoocho Ha Ha. and it reminds me of a high brow version of Bill Maher or Michael Moore. To say that the tea party is fighting a fantasy threat while obama is fighting a real threat is poppycock. the tea party is fighting profligate spending in washington and incessant growth of government power. These are real threats to national security. To it's Greece. Tomorrow it could be us. 13 trillion in debt is almost 90% of the GDP. abjectly unsustainable!

Professor Pease, this liberal view point doesn't surprise me... obama is dealing with an actual threat while the tea partiers are dealing with a fantasy threat? birthers are a main component of the tea party? Patently false. The main thrust of the tea partiers is fiscal responsibilty. That's why things got started with them. The threat is real. 13 trillion in debt is a fantasy threat? I can tell Pease WANTS obama to regain momentum rather than being objective. Epic Fail professor.

@cardone7 I know..I know...anyone with a functioning brain is a "leftist and an elitist!" and the state of Hawaii has already said that Obama was born there...What do you need? perhaps a video of BHO's mother giving birth would suffice, or would that be a "liberal conspiracy?" btw, McCain was born in Panama and I'm not quite sure that Palin was even born of this planet...
Good Job Prof!
