Dead Mall Dixie Square Mall Harvey IL

I was in the Chicago suburbs for a visit this September. This is what Dixie Square mall looks like today. (Sept 18th 2007)
This is the mall that had the police chase thru it in the Blues Brothers movie.
Please excuse the jittery camera footage, it's difficult to drive and hold the camera at the same time. :) The smell coming out of the place was really musty and damp! Unfortunatley, we didn't go inside the premises since we were being watched by the Harvey police and I didn't want them to come over and have to kick us out. We saw several police cruisers over there as soon as we left when we were driving away! It's quite a rundown neighborhood these days, much worse than it was 25 years ago when I used to live in the Chicago area and it was a bad neighborhood then!

Rising?? Haha, yeah ok. Who are you, Mayor Kellogg? Nothing in Harvey is rising. They only tore down one store at the mall, and then nothing more. That was two years ago. So, it's actually been left in even worse shape than before. Not to mention the police force there, that is itching to violate any civil rights they can. I'm sorry you feel you have to lie about how your city conducts it's self, but you're not fooling me.

Was just there this past weekend, cops drove right by and did not harass me. Drove right up to one of the entrances but was not going to go inside without my buddies Smith & Wesson!

anyone remember the glycerine drop waterfall strings when the Mall was new??  the 5&10 in there had live baby chicks for Easter 1967.. our old Polish neighbors had a coop of them ...after our mother said ENOUGH!

I shopped there as a kid. it was scary to see the place close and remain vacant so long. last time I drove past most was gone.
